1. Glossary

PDCA (plan do check act) is an iterative four step management method used in business for the control and continuous improvement of processes and products. It is also known as the Deming cycle
A project is a set of related activities intended to accomplish specific objectives. A project should be unique and temporary (with start and end dates) while operational work is repetitive and ongoing.
From CMM-DEV V1.3:
A project is a managed set of interrelated activities and resources, including people that deliver one or more products or services to a customer or end user. A project has an intended beginning (i.e., project startup) and end. Projects typically operate according to a plan. Such a plan is frequently documented and specifies what is to be delivered or implemented, the resources and funds to be used, the work to be done, and a schedule for doing the work. A project can be composed of projects.
A Request indicates a specific need expressed by an internal or external client.
From CMMI-DEV V1.3:
(1) A condition or capability needed by a user to solve a problem or achieve an objective.
(2) A condition or capability that must be met or possessed by a product, service, product component, or service component to satisfy a supplier agreement, standard, specification, or other formally imposed documents.
(3) A documented representation of a condition or capability as in (1) or (2).
A Risk is any uncertain event (probability) that impacts (impact) one or more project objectives.
